So why British Sugar?
The British beet sugar industry has been operating for over 100 years and is one of the most efficient and productive sugar industries in the world. Sugar beet grown in fields across the East of England is made into sugar that is consumed not just across the UK, but across the world. We have an excellent story of sustainability from the yields on farm to the way we produce virtually zero waste at our factories. As part of this we have a number of significant non-sugar business streams including Bioethanol, energy generation and a joint venture with Trident, selling animal feed.
We work with over 3,000 UK farmers, supporting 9,500 jobs across the industry and serve customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets.
With a new Board in place the business strategy is clear as we strive to be at the heart of a thriving homegrown sugar industry by focusing on three clear strategic pillars – Customer, Cost and Culture.
