Konyaspor continue there surprising underdog run as super sub Dikmen finally breaks the dead lock in the deadlock in the 77th minute, it looks like Konyaspor will hold on but Braga’s talisman Horta slides the ball into the back of the net after a freekick hits the cross bar.

2 Lazio vs Frankfurt 3 (Dice Roll)
Another loss for Lazio and another win for Frankfurt, if Lazio don’t turn it around soon they might be facing going out last place. Knauff scored a wonderful volley first time to open the scoring up and Lazio bounced back on a counter attack, Ciro Immobile passed it to Felipe Andersen who was wide open in the box, then Immobile scored one himself but a header from Ndicka gave them enough hope for Kamada to dribble in and grab the important winning goal for Frankfurt.

Matchday 3 Group A

3 Frankfurt vs Konyaspor 0
Konyaspor are silenced at the Waldstadion after a good first two games and Frankfurt now have 9 points out of 9. Kevin Trapp makes a save that any keeper would be proud of following a shot from Hassan. After that early shot Frankfurt run riot, with Sow, Borre and even right back Da Costa getting on the scoresheet.

3 Lazio vs Braga 1 (Dice roll)
Lazio pick up there first points of the tournament and Braga fall to the bottom. At the early stages Braga score one and it looks like Lazio might lose 3 in 3. However in the added minutes of halftime Luis Alberto puts a thundering strike Matheus’s way and he doesn’t get near it. Nearer the end of the match Felipe Anderson crosses to Pedro who shoots the ball low into the corner and scores. To put Braga to bed Immobile rushes forward and chips Matheus in brilliant fashion.

In the 26th minute of the game Sitya crosses a lovely ball over the defence and Mpoku volleys it home from a metre out and Strakosha is left hopeless. It looks like Lazio will suffer another embarrassing defeat but in the 78th minute Pedro beats his man and shoots, it rebounds of the post and Lazzari is there to score. Even later on in the game Luis Alberto swings a corner kick in and Acerbi is there to head the ball into the bottom corner.

Braga score early and Gonzalez is already celebrating but the linesman’s flag is up and after a quick VAR check its disallowed. Right after half time Frankfurt go and attack quickly, Trapp boots it high but far and once Borre gets to the ball before the keeper there’s no way to stop him and he scores the open goal. Next Erik Durm who was subbed on because of an injury to Da Costa surprises the Braga defence with another long ball over the top, this time Kostic receives it and he fakes to shoot but passes across to complete Borre’s double.

Matchday 5 Group A

3 Lazio vs Frankfurt 1
Lazio’s win starts with a cheeky skill from Milinkovic-Savic who then plays a perfect through ball to Immobile and as usual he slices it into the corner of the goal. Frankfurt look like they might pull of a comeback when Knauff scores but Lazio take control of the game and win a penalty, Immobile strikes it hard and low into the right where he scores, to put the game to bed Luis Alberto curls the ball into the top corner from a free kick.

3 Braga vs Konyaspor 5 (dice roll)
To start this goal fest of both sides score two goals within thirty minutes and there is no more goals in that half but to start the half of there is a big fight and both sides get a red card. In the 80th minute Hassan scores one then he does again, Braga bounce back and score one but there hopes are crushed when a cruel own goal goes in and Konyaspor win 5-3

Matchday 6 Group A

0 Braga vs Lazio 2
Lazio send out Braga after very unfortunate luck and now we can only wait and see if Lazio will qualify. Lazio started early with a goal in the first ten minutes and the credit goes to Immobile for scoring, he taps it around a Braga defender and then fakes to shoot to take the other defender out the game finally he shoots and its deflected of a defender to go in of the crossbar. Finally, in the latest minutes of the game its Lucas Leiva who panners Matheus.

1 Konyaspor vs Frankfurt 2 (Dice roll)
Konyaspor go on an early attack and Frankfurt are lucky as its of the post, however minutes later Frankfurt clearly haven’t learnt their lesson and a similar attack happens, this time it rolls in after Hassan barely taps it to goal. In the 75th minute Kevin Trapp boots it far and Kamada runs on and plays a 1-2 with Kostic then shoots the ball into the bottom corner.

Group over, it was very eventful and although Frankfurt did great, it will be Konyaspor’s surprising run that is remembered from Group A. Now however its time to see who made the round of 32 from Group A only two teams can qualify. Braga will definitely not be pleased with there points

P
1 Frankfurt 15
2 Lazio 12
3 Konyaspor 10
4 Braga 1

Team of the group stage:
Trapp, Hysaj, Acerbi, Bardakci, Da Costa, Luis Alberto, Sow, Kamada, Kostic, Hassan, Felipe Andersen

POTGS-Hassan

A rule I should have explained at the beginning is that when you beat a team you will be able to take one player from there team in the group stages instead 1st can take 4th and 2nd can take 3rd. A rule to be noted is that you can’t take a player that has already been taken from another team.

Frankfurt-Galeno
Lazio-Hassan

Group B

Barcelona
Freiburg
Club Brugge
Lens

Barcelona will be clear faviourites after coming second in LaLiga last year despite massive financial debt. Lens finished 7th last year whilst Freiburg finished 6th and it must be said the Bundesliga is a more competitive league. Club Brugge recently won the Belgain Pro League and have some well known players including Simon Mignolet who starts at Club Brugge in goal.

Matchday 1 Group B

3 Barcelona vs Lens 2
Clauss gets past Jordi Alba and crosses the ball to the box where Doucore chests it down and volleys it into the corner. Aubameyang sprints on the left wing and crosses the ball, luckily for Barca, the ball is deflected and flies perfectly into the top corner. In the 67th minute the game changes when Medina gets sent of and gives away a free kick that Messi would certainly have scored from. Its Memphis Depay vs the keeper and when his shot is taken it looks highly unlikely to go in but the keeper punches it away and Gerrard Pique reacts first to score. De Jong scores the second goal and Barcelona are in cruise mode when Lens win a corner. Kakuta swings it in and Sergio Dest scores an own goal. Barcelona manage to hang on against 10 man Lens though.

0 Club Brugge vs Freiburg 0(Dice roll)
The first game to be 0-0 in the tournament and its very uneventful. Club Brugge and Freiburg both keep a clean sheet but neither sides strikers will be happy with the outcome especially seeing as Grifo misses an open goal with seconds left on the clock.

Matchday 2 Group B

2 Lens vs Club Brugge 0
Lens start off well but cant find a goal till the 62nd minute where Fofana scores a screamer that rebounded of the bar. As Club Brugge send up more and more players they still cant score so in the 93rd minute they send up there keeper too. When the Lens keeper punches it out Medina clears it out on the right to Clauss who runs and scores the open goal.

1 Freiburg vs Barcelona 5 (Dice Roll)

Absolute domination from Barcelona. Its starts with Sergio Roberto crossing the ball to Depay who hits it first time into the top corner. Then from kick off Depay gets it again and slides it past the keeper. Freiburg score again with a Schlotterback header but even that doesn’t give them hope and Barcelona score again before half time with a tap in from Pedri. in the 52nd minute Freiburg are awarded a penalty that is skied. To finish his hattrick Memphis Depay headers the ball past Flekken. To end the game and a great show Aubameyang’s shot hits the bar but Ferran Torres scores the rebound.

Matchday 3 Group B

1 Barcelona vs Club Brugge 0

De Jong crosses the ball to Sergio Busquets who chests it down to Gavi where he taps it past the keeper. From there on Barcelona only had to defend and they did that well with Pique blocking a tap in from Vanaken from point blanc range. And despite a shaky end they manage to hang on to the win.

3 Lens vs Freiburg 2 (Dice roll)
The race for second place is looking good as Lens take the lead. Freiburg score two similar looking goals in the 26th and 32nd minute from corners and at half time Lens have a mountain to climb. Kakuta scores a free kick then assists one to Sotoca. In the final minutes Freiburg attack again and again but in the end its a Lens penalty from a terrible defensive mistake. The 93rd minute, 10 men vs 11 but only the penalty kick matters now. Kakuta steps and Panenkas the keeper he’s the game winner for Lens.

Matchday 4 Group B

2 Freiburg vs Club Brugge 0
It was a must win game for Freiburg to qualify and they did just that as Grifo slips the first one past the keeper and the second one is Eggestein chipping the keeper and Sallai making sure it goes in. Freiburg keep the ball and comfortably win with 64% possession. Now they need to keep up the winning streak to qualify.

4 Lens vs Barcelona 4 (Dice roll)
A shocking score-line, its goal after goal. After what looks like a comfortable save Ter Stegen spills the ball into his own net. To reduce Barcelonas hope of an away win Fofana scores a screamer into the top left, Barcelona fight back when De Jong splits the defense with a long ball and Luuk De Jong scores. Ansu Fati beats two defenders and scores. To complete the comeback Dest outpaces Machado and swings the ball in to Luuk De Jong who scores his second. When Memphis Depay scores an Olympico it looks like game over but somehow Lens bite back with two late goals courtesy of Ganago and Frankowski.

Matchday 5 Group B

1 Barcelona vs Freiburg 1
Freiburg keep the pressure on Lens to win against Club Brugge with a draw. Barcelona score within 53 seconds when Flekken messes up his drop kick and Aubameyang scores an open goal when Memphis Depay scores. No more on target shots are taken till the 66th minute when Pedri fires a powerful shot into Flekkens hands. Freiburg counter attack in the 85th minute and Gunter fires a long range effort, all Ter Stegen can do is touch it into the side netting.

1 Club Brugge vs Lens 0 (Dice roll)
De Ketelaere runs on to a through ball played by Vormer and he manages to run around the keeper and tap it into the back of the net. Club Brugge hold on for the rest of the game thanks to some super saves from Simon Mignolet. Next up the final matchday in group B, who will make it to the round of 32.

1 Freiburg vs Lens 1
Lens score early as Medina flicks the ball on to Doucure who head it goal wards and into the back of the net. In the 77th minute Freiburg regain hope as Sallai scores a screamer into the top corner. In the final minutes Eggestein is sprinting into the box when Medina slide tackles him without winning the ball. A penalty, in the last minute to qualify Freiburg to the round of 32. Grifo steps up and hits the abr his follow up is of the post and after that Clauss clears the ball and Lens draw wich is enough for them to qualify.

2 Club Brugge vs Barcelona 2
Another good result for Club Brugge but its too late for them to start doing well. Barcelona score in the 34th and 36th minute leaving Club Brugge hopeless at half time but De Ketealere scores an acrobatic volley and to end an enjoyable group full of excitement Maouassa half volleys the ball through the keepers legs.

So group B ends and Barcelona, no surprise win however despite finishing last Club Brugge do surprisingly well with 5 points, they took points from every club but its the one against Freiburg that matters the most meaning we wont see any more of them in this group. It must be noted as well that Club Brugge conceded the least goals of any team
POTGS: It must be Doucure who scored a few crucial goals for Lens as well as always giving a solid performance. He would get at least a 6 out of 10 in every game Lens played.

Team of the Group Stage:
Flekken, Maouassa, Medina, Pique, Clauss, Doucure, Gavi, Vanaken, Aubameyang, Depay, Grifo

Barcelona-Maouassa
Lens-Grifo

Group C
Dortmund
Malmo
Sevilla
Arsenal

Sevilla, Dortmund and Arsenal will all be challenging for the top spot but Malmo cant be overlooked and will trip up teams when they aren’t ready. All in all, it will be the most entertaining group so far with luck.
