Job Description: Claims Handler

Circa £28,000 (Dependant on Experience) 


The Company

My client is a London-based loss assessor specialising in providing a complete service including building reinstatement works to anyone who has made or is about to make an insurance claim following damage to their property or a third party’s property.

Skills/Background of Ideal Candidate

Currently working in a property claims department of an insurance company, a claims management company appointed by insurers to deal with their claims, a firm of loss adjusters in a role of a claims technician; Looking to work in a small team, develop new skills and be trained to develop a career in a fast growing, profitable business.

Knowledge of property insurance claims
General knowledge of how building repair jobs are carried out
Organised, methodical, hard-working and able to multitask
Excellent customer service and communication skills – written and by phone
Ability to effectively solve problems, negotiate and think on his/her feet.
The Role

Full time permanent role – office based in Clapham SW4
Submit repair schedules to insurers, recommend a reserve and notify of any alternative accommodation requirements
Arrange for insurers to appoint loss adjusters and arrange a meeting with the company’s surveyor at the client’s property
Make changes to the scope of works agreed on site and submit for approval
Chase up loss adjusters for settlement of the claim and advise management of next steps for each file
Negotiate the scope of works and costs with loss adjusters to settlement by means of a detailed understanding of the scope and how costs are calculated.
Liaise with clients to keep them informed of the progress of their claim and of meetings arranged
After settlement, brief our contracts division of the details of the settlement and the agreed list of works
Raise invoices to insurers for interim payments, track and monitor payment requests and chase the payments where needed.

Training Provided

Office training on the company’s process for submitting claims
Office training on how to prepare cost schedules of building work for submission to insurers on bespoke software
Office training on how to arrange a meeting with the appropriate loss adjuster
Office training on strategy to negotiate a claim and how to argue our client’s position
Training on preparation of invoices to insurers for completed works
Training on procedure to follow to chase payments from insurers
